Vinyl is sometimes known by its chemical name polyvinyl chloride or the abbreviation PVC. It is a polymer compound meaning that a single chemical subunit forms the building block which is polymerized to form very long molecular chains. When it is polymerized, vinyl takes on a solid form. This solid form may be flexible if there are additives such as pthalates in the mix. The result is a durable, indestructible material.
Vinyl doors and windows are also available to homeowners. The main advantage is that in both cases the material is a very low maintenance alternative to wood. Vinyl does not warp or crack under sun and rain. Vinyl is also very cheap and widely available compared to other types of construction material.
On the other hand PVC does present some disadvantages. One of them is that it is relatively ugly compared to wood or steel. Another is that repair is almost impossible because the vinyl is essentially a single piece piece made of plastic. The most trouble free way to repair a vinyl product is to get a new one.
PVC is not as popular as wood or steel when it comes to doors.

The canonical Victorian lamp shade consists of a metal wire frame that serves as a scaffold for tautly stretched fabric and a fringe or beaded skirt that hangs from the bottom of the shade. This style emerged only after the late 1800s when distribution systems for electricity became common in cities. Prior to this age, home lighting, if any, ran off utility gas. As gas-lighting involves the production of a flame, a fabric shade was out of the question.
Instead, glass lamp shades were used to surround and protect the interior flame from drafts that may otherwise extinguish or displace the flame in a dangerous way. But with the advent of electrical lighting, there was no longer any need for glass shades, and many homes took on the Victorian fabric and beaded shades instead. However, glass lamp shades remained in use for their peculiar aesthetic qualities.
The convention for naming Victorian shades does require some explanation. The period of Queen Victorian ended in 1901 meaning that there was only some 15-20 years between the invention of city-wide electricity and fabric-based shades. Although such fast acceptance of the style is not inconceivable.

It seems that the latest commercial interior designs are being influence by the hospitality industry, the economy and the need for authenticity.
The hospitality industries influence on the commercial interior design industry has seen the workplace changing from a boring, stiff place of work to a space that reflects a culture.
Offices with a strong youth culture are looking more like bars and many offices are introducing changeable lighting systems to create a variety of moods. The introduction of gaming areas and decked out kitchen areas are also signaling this shift in office designs. The boring office is being replaced with a visually stimulating and youth focused office.
Whether it is the economic downfall or the move towards more authenticity there has been a shift in commercial interior away from flashy colours and polished veneers and towards a more exposing, raw and modest design.
Exposed brick walls, exposed concrete and wiring, modest wall colours and more weathered and aged looks are reflecting a turn towards modesty in the workplace but also in society. People are become less flashy and glamorous as we weather the current economic storm.

Each time a homeowner decides to build or renovate an old home, she or he is usually faced with making a selection on which kind of front door to use. Wooden doors, fiberglass exterior doors and steel doors are the three most usual kinds of doors which are used these days. Each kind of door has its unique benefits and drawbacks.
The wood door is perhaps one of the most recognizable and could be seen in both old and new homes. With its traditional look, this kind of door is also flexible due to the fact that its surface may be carved into numerous complicated designs. It can also be repaired easily with normal wood shop tools.
But the appearance of wood doors is compromised by the maintenance necessary to keep the surface attractive. Even after only a year, because of the door being exposed to the sun or moisture, the surface may begin to peel or crack. With regard to prices, wood doors are quite expensive given how long they last before necessitating maintenance work and frequently don’t have more than a year’s warranty.

Decor in all parts of the house is important but perhaps principally so in the living room. This is where people spend most of their times (perhaps with the exception of teenagers) and where the guests are entertained. Furniture such as couches and bookshelves is vital of course, but also the kind of lighting will deeply affect all the other decorative elements. Here we discuss how to improve lighting.
One of the simple things that can change the entire mood of the room is a glass lamp shade. Glass is a distinctive material for a lampshade because of its sparkle, color and various shapes. A fabric shade transmits only a fraction of the light, and must be wrapped over a frame. A glass shade maintains unique, independent shapes without the need for a wire frame.
In what follows consumers can check out some ideas for glass lamp shades. Premier on the list are the Tiffany shades which are not easily obtainable but highly valued for as antique glass lamp shades. Tiffany shades have been even featured in museums. People with large rooms and spacious houses should consider torchiere shades and standing lamps to increase available lighting. Others can defer to more common lamps but should consider unique shapes like the hurricane shade, and the Victorian style gas lamp shade.
